What is watermelon sorbet?

Watermelon sorbet is a light, refreshing frozen dessert made from blended watermelon and citrus juice. Unlike ice cream, sorbet is dairy-free and has a smooth, icy texture that’s perfect for hot summer days.

Can I make watermelon sorbet without sugar?

Yes. If your watermelon is naturally sweet and ripe, there’s no need to add sugar. This recipe relies on the fruit’s natural sweetness for flavour.

Is watermelon sorbet healthy?

Yes. This watermelon sorbet is naturally dairy-free, made with real fruit and contains no added sugar, making it a lighter alternative to traditional ice cream and many shop-bought frozen desserts.

Can I use fresh watermelon instead of frozen?

Frozen watermelon is essential for achieving a thick, scoopable sorbet texture. If using fresh watermelon, cut it into cubes and freeze for at least 4–6 hours before blending.

How long should I freeze watermelon before making sorbet?

Freeze watermelon cubes for at least 4 hours, although overnight freezing gives the best results.

Why is my watermelon sorbet not smooth?

If the mixture seems crumbly, allow the frozen watermelon to sit at room temperature for 5–10 minutes before blending. A powerful blender or food processor will also help create a smoother texture.

How long does homemade watermelon sorbet last?

Stored in an airtight container, homemade watermelon sorbet will keep well in the freezer for up to one month. For the best flavour and texture, enjoy it within the first two weeks.

Why add lime juice to watermelon sorbet?

Lime juice balances the sweetness of the watermelon and enhances its fresh flavour. It also gives the sorbet a bright, refreshing finish.

Can I use lemon juice instead of lime?

Yes. Lemon juice works well if you don’t have limes. It adds a slightly different citrus flavour but still complements the watermelon beautifully.

Can I make watermelon sorbet in a food processor?

Yes. A food processor works just as well as a blender. Blend until the frozen watermelon breaks down into a smooth, creamy consistency.

Can I make watermelon sorbet with other fruit?

Yes. Watermelon pairs well with strawberries, raspberries, mango, pineapple and kiwi. You can blend frozen fruit together for different flavour combinations.

Can I refreeze leftover watermelon sorbet?

Yes. Store it in an airtight freezer-safe container. If it becomes too firm after refreezing, let it sit at room temperature for 10–15 minutes before scooping.
