Welcome to the Bored of Lunch Book Club! Each week, I’m excited to share some of my absolute favourite recipes and cookbooks from talented authors and food bloggers. This club is for everyone who loves food, and I believe it’s a fantastic way to discover new recipes and techniques while connecting with fellow foodies. So without further ado, let’s talk about my recipe of the week 🙂
In this book club, you’ll find a variety of recipes that cater to different tastes and dietary preferences. Each week, I’ll feature a recipe that has inspired me, along with the cookbook or blogger it comes from. This way, you can try new dishes and also grow your collection of cookbooks!
Recipe of the Week
This week, we’re featuring a classic British dish with a gluten-free twist: Toad in the Hole. This comforting meal combines juicy sausages with a light, crispy batter that’s sure to satisfy your cravings.
Toad in the Hole is one of those dishes that feels like a warm hug on a plate. It’s hearty, filling, and perfect for sharing with family and friends. This gluten-free version means that everyone can enjoy it without worrying about dietary restrictions. Plus, it’s simple to make and packed with flavour.
This dish is ideal for cold evenings when you want something warm and comforting. It’s perfect for family dinners, casual get-togethers, or even as a special treat on a weekend. Serve it with some seasonal vegetables or a rich gravy for an extra touch. It’s a hit in my house especially over Autumn (or fall… whatever you want to call it).
While Toad in the Hole is best enjoyed fresh from the oven, you can certainly prepare some elements in advance. Cook the sausages ahead of time and store them separately from the batter. When you’re ready to eat, just combine them and pop them in the oven for a quick meal that feels homemade.
Toad in the Hole isn’t typically known as a low-calorie dish due to its rich ingredients. However, you can make healthier choices by opting for lean sausages and being mindful of portion sizes. It’s all about balance in my opinion 👀
