DIFFICULTY
simple
I never have leftover pain au chocolat, so I buy them fresh for this, but if you do, this is the simplest pudding that is such a crowd pleaser. It is very indulgent, but sometimes you just have to treat yourself, right?
Can you make bread and butter pudding in a slow cooker?
Yes, the slow cooker is perfect for making bread and butter pudding. It gently cooks the custard without overbaking, keeping the pudding soft, rich, and indulgent. It’s a fuss-free way to create a warm slow cooker dessert with very little effort.
What’s the twist with this bread and butter pudding?
This version uses pain au chocolat instead of plain bread, adding flaky pastry and gooey chocolate to every bite. It’s a fun, indulgent twist on the classic pudding and perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth.
How long does this take in the slow cooker?
Cook on Low for 2–2.5 hours or until the custard is set but still soft. The pain au chocolat should puff slightly while the base remains custardy and rich.
Do I need to use stale pain au chocolat?
Stale or day-old pain au chocolat works best as it soaks up the custard without falling apart, just like traditional bread in a bread and butter pudding.
Can I make this slow cooker dessert in advance?
You can assemble it ahead of time, cover, and store in the fridge overnight. Then just pop it in the slow cooker when you’re ready to cook.
Can I reheat leftovers?
Absolutely. Leftovers can be reheated in the microwave or on Low in the slow cooker. It also tastes great cold straight from the fridge!
What should I serve it with?
This slow cooker dessert is perfect with a drizzle of cream, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or a spoonful of custard.
Is this dessert suitable for kids?
Definitely! The soft, chocolatey layers are a hit with little ones, making it a great choice for family-friendly treats.
