- Category: Popular |
I had this nearly every day in Italy and it lives in my head rent free. Burrata is so underrated and you can get it in most supermarkets.

Who doesn’t love burrata? If you’re hosting friends across a bank holiday or summer weekend you NEED to make this. Now I know the only thing air fried here is bread rubbed in garlic but once you start eating you will be fully onboard with this lazy recipe. Serve with 1 burrata ball and 6 slices of sourdough.
What is Burrata?
Burrata is a luxurious Italian cheese that originated in the Puglia region. It consists of a solid outer layer made from fresh mozzarella, while the inside is filled with stracciatella (a creamy mixture of shredded mozzarella and heavy cream). This unique structure gives burrata its signature texture, which is both rich and velvety. When you cut into it, the creamy interior flows out like liquid gold, making it a delightful addition to salads, pastas, and more. The taste of burrata is mild yet buttery, with a subtle sweetness that pairs beautifully with fresh ingredients, making it an ideal component for summer recipes.
Why Use an Air Fryer For This Recipe?
Using an air fryer for this recipe not only simplifies the cooking process but also enhances the overall dish. Air fryers circulate hot air around the food, resulting in a crispy texture without the need for excessive oil. This method is perfect for preparing the accompanying bread, giving it a golden-brown finish while keeping it light and airy. Additionally, air frying helps retain the freshness and flavours of the ingredients, making it an excellent choice for summer recipes where vibrant tastes are key.
Air Frying the Bread
Air frying the bread for your burrata salad is incredibly straightforward. Start by slicing your preferred bread (ciabatta or sourdough works wonderfully) and lightly brushing it with olive oil. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Place the slices in the air fryer basket in a single layer and cook at 180°C (350°F) for about 5-7 minutes or until they are crispy and golden brown. This method ensures that your bread retains its moisture while achieving that perfect crunch, making it an excellent accompaniment to the creamy burrata.
Serving Suggestions
Burrata salad can be served in various ways to enhance its appeal:
- Present individual portions on small plates as an elegant starter for dinner parties.
- Create a beautiful sharing platter with sliced burrata surrounded by seasonal vegetables and fruits.
- Finish with a drizzle of high-quality olive oil or aged balsamic vinegar for added richness.
How to Store Leftovers?
If you have leftover burrata salad, storing it properly is essential to maintain its quality:
- Place any leftover salad in an airtight container in the fridge. Consume within 1-2 days for optimal freshness.
- If possible, store the burrata separately from the salad ingredients to prevent sogginess.
Alternatives to Burrata
If you can’t find burrata or want to try something different, consider these alternatives:
- Fresh Mozzarella: While not as creamy as burrata, fresh mozzarella can provide a similar texture in salads.
- Ricotta Cheese: For a lighter option, ricotta offers a creamy consistency that can complement salads well.
- Feta Cheese: Crumbled feta adds a tangy flavour that contrasts nicely with sweet tomatoes and greens.
