What are jalapeño bottle caps?
Jalapeño bottle caps are thinly sliced jalapeños that are breaded and cooked until crispy. They’re spicy, crunchy, and perfect as a quick air fryer snack or a side dish with dips or burgers.
Can I use fresh or pickled jalapeños?
Both work! Pickled jalapeños are slightly tangier and milder, while fresh jalapeños give a bigger kick. Just make sure to pat them dry before breading.
How long do I cook jalapeño bottle caps in the air fryer?
Cook at 200°C for around 6–8 minutes, flipping or shaking halfway through, until they’re golden and crisp.
Do I need to preheat the air fryer?
Yes, preheating helps get the bottle caps extra crispy. Preheat your air fryer for 2–3 minutes at 200°C before cooking.
What’s the best coating for jalapeño bottle caps?
A simple coating of flour, egg, and breadcrumbs or panko works great. You can also season the crumbs with garlic powder, paprika or a touch of salt for extra flavour.
Are air fryer jalapeño snacks spicy?
They can be! Pickled jalapeños tend to be milder, while fresh ones can vary. You can deseed them to reduce heat, or leave seeds in for extra spice.
Can I make them ahead of time?
Yes – bread them in advance and keep them chilled until ready to cook. You can also reheat leftovers in the air fryer for 2–3 minutes to crisp them up again.
Are these healthier than deep-fried jalapeño caps?
Absolutely. Using the air fryer means you get the same crispy texture with far less oil, making this a lighter option for your snack cravings.
What dips go well with jalapeño bottle caps?
They’re perfect with sour cream, garlic mayo, chipotle dip or ranch dressing – great for sharing boards or a snack platter.
Can I make these gluten-free?
Yes – just use gluten-free flour and gluten-free breadcrumbs in the coating. The rest of the ingredients are naturally gluten-free. For more quick and easy air fryer recipes pick up a copy of my air fryer cookbooks Air Fryer 30 Minute Meals and The Healthy Air Fryer Book today.

Method
Step 1
Drain the jalapeños, reserving the pickling liquid they came in. Blot them well with kitchen paper to dry and toss them with flour until coated.
Step 2
Pour the reserved pickling liquid into a large bowl with plain flour and the fajita seasoning. Dip the jalapeños in the batter, then scoop them out using a fork and transfer straight to the air fryer with some vegetable oil.
Step 3
Airfry for 5 minutes at 180°C (355°F) until golden and crisp, then remove and drain on kitchen paper to soak up any excess oil.
Step 4
In a small bowl, mix the coriander, soured cream and lime zest. Cut the zested lime into wedges.
Step 5
Serve the jalapeños with a sprinkle of salt and pepper, the dipping sauce and the lime wedges.
