Air Fryer Cajun Prawn Pil Pil
- Category: Comfort |
Not the most traditional way to make this so I apologise to the Spanish in advance. I changed it up and made it with Cajun seasoning instead.

Making this Prawn Pil Pil in the air fryer is such a quick way to make it so no preheating the oven waiting a lifetime for the oil to heat.
Why You Should Make This Recipe
You should definitely try making Air Fryer Prawn Pil Pil because it’s a quick, delicious, and healthier version of the classic Spanish tapas dish. Using an air fryer significantly reduces the amount of oil needed, making it a lighter option without compromising on flavour. The combination of juicy prawns, garlic, chilli, and olive oil creates a mouthwatering dish that’s perfect as an appetiser or main course. Plus, it’s incredibly easy to prepare, taking just minutes to cook, which makes it ideal for busy weeknights or when you’re entertaining guests.
Can I Cook Prawn Pil Pil In The Air Fryer?
Absolutely. Cooking Prawn Pil Pil in the air fryer is not only possible but I really recommend it. The air fryer circulates hot air around the prawns, ensuring they cook evenly and quickly. This method results in perfectly cooked prawns that are tender on the inside and slightly crispy on the outside. The air fryer also helps to intensify the flavours of the garlic and chilli, infusing the prawns with a delicious taste. Remember to preheat your air fryer and arrange the prawns in a single layer for best results.
What Other Spices Can I Use?
While the classic Pil Pil recipe typically uses garlic and chilli, you can experiment with other spices to create your own unique flavour profile:
- Smoked paprika adds a lovely depth and smoky flavour.
- Dried oregano or thyme can introduce a Mediterranean twist.
- For a bit of heat, try adding cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes.
- Cumin can give the dish a warm, earthy flavour.
- A pinch of saffron will add a luxurious touch and beautiful colour.
