Slow Cooker Apple Crumble. This childhood classic brings back fond memories of my aunty’s homemade version. While she might be surprised to see it cooked in a slow cooker, trust me, Marian, it’s just as delicious! Once you take a bite, you’ll be transported back in time, falling in love with this dessert all over again.

Can you make apple crumble in a slow cooker?

Yes, and it’s a game-changer! Making apple crumble in a slow cooker gives you soft, spiced apples with a golden crumble topping — all without turning on the oven. It’s the perfect hands-off dessert.

How long does apple crumble take in the slow cooker?

Cook your slow cooker apple crumble on high for 2–3 hours or low for 4–5 hours, depending on your slow cooker’s power. You’ll know it’s ready when the apples are tender and the crumble is golden and crisp.

Do I need to pre-cook the apples before adding them to the slow cooker?

Nope! Just peel, core, and slice the apples, toss them in a bit of sugar and cinnamon, then top with your crumble mixture. The slow cooker does all the work for you.

How do I make the crumble topping crispy in the slow cooker?

For a crispier topping, place a tea towel under the lid of your slow cooker during the final hour of cooking. This helps absorb moisture and keeps the topping from going soggy.

What apples are best for apple crumble?

Use firm apples like Bramley, Granny Smith, or Pink Lady. They hold their shape and give a good balance of sweetness and tartness in a slow cooker apple crumble.

Can I make this ahead of time?

Absolutely! This apple crumble keeps well in the fridge for up to 3 days and can be reheated in the microwave or oven. It’s also freezer-friendly — just defrost and reheat when needed.

What should I serve with slow cooker apple crumble?

This comforting dessert pairs perfectly with custard, vanilla ice cream, or whipped cream. It’s also delicious with a drizzle of caramel sauce for extra indulgence.

Can I make this apple crumble gluten-free or dairy-free?

Yes! Simply swap the flour in the crumble topping for a gluten-free blend, and use dairy-free margarine or coconut oil instead of butter. It’s easy to adapt for dietary needs.

Is this a good dessert for entertaining?

Definitely! It’s a brilliant stress-free dessert for dinner parties or family gatherings. Just prep it in the morning, let it slow cook, and serve warm straight from the pot.

Can I add other fruits to this crumble?

Yes — try mixing in pears, blackberries, or rhubarb with the apples for a twist on the classic. It’s a great way to use up any leftover fruit you have at home.
