Ideal for busy weekdays or meal prepping, this slow cooker noodle dish is perfect for meal prep or can be a delicious fakeaway meal. For those who prefer rice, just skip the noodles and stock. And with my healthier approach, I’ve made a lean version using reduced-fat coconut milk and no oil, so you can enjoy a guilt-free meal that doesn’t skimp on taste.

Can you make beef noodles in the slow cooker?

Yes, absolutely! Making beef noodles in the slow cooker is one of the easiest ways to achieve tender, flavour-packed meat with minimal effort. The slow cooker allows the beef to become melt-in-your-mouth soft while absorbing the rich, nutty peanut sauce. Simply add all your ingredients to the pot, set it, and let the magic happen.

What cut of beef is best for slow cooker beef noodles?

For the most tender results, use cuts that benefit from low-and-slow cooking. Ideal options include:

  • Beef brisket
  • Braising steak
  • Shin or stewing steak

These cuts break down beautifully in the slow cooker, making them perfect for hearty fakeaway beef noodles.

Can I use crunchy peanut butter in the sauce?

Yes, you can! Both smooth and crunchy peanut butter work well in this recipe. Smooth gives a creamier texture, while crunchy adds a bit of bite. The key is to balance the saltiness and sweetness—adding ingredients like soy sauce, honey, garlic, and ginger will elevate the peanut sauce to takeaway-level flavour.

Are slow cooker beef noodles healthy?

Compared to traditional takeaways, this fakeaway beef noodle recipe is a healthier alternative. You control the ingredients—less oil, less sugar, and more wholesome additions like fresh veggies and lean protein. Using the slow cooker also reduces the need for processed sauces and additives often found in store-bought versions.

How long do beef noodles take in the slow cooker?

For the best texture and flavour, cook on low for 7–8 hours, or cook on high for 4–5 hours. Add the noodles during the last 30 minutes to prevent them from becoming mushy, or cook them separately and stir them in just before serving.

Can I use a different protein instead of beef?

Absolutely. While beef noodles are the star of this recipe, the concept works well with other proteins like:

  • Chicken thighs
  • Pork shoulder
  • Tofu (for a vegetarian option)

Just adjust cooking times based on your protein of choice.

What noodles work best for this recipe?

This slow cooker beef noodles recipe works great with:

  • Udon noodles for a chewy bite
  • Egg noodles for a takeaway-style feel
  • Rice noodles for a gluten-free option

Add cooked noodles at the end to avoid overcooking them in the slow cooker.

Can I prep this recipe ahead of time?

Yes! This is a perfect make-ahead fakeaway. You can:

  • Marinate the beef and store in the fridge overnight
  • Store the peanut sauce separately
  • Add both to your slow cooker the next morning
  • Reheat leftovers in the microwave or on the hob, adding a splash of water to loosen the sauce

Can I freeze slow cooker beef noodles?

Yes, this dish freezes well! Freeze the beef and peanut sauce (without noodles) in an airtight container for up to 3 months. When you’re ready to eat, defrost and reheat, then add freshly cooked noodles.

What vegetables can I add to beef noodles?

To make this a well-rounded fakeaway meal, toss in vegetables like:

  • Sliced peppers
  • Carrots
  • Broccoli
  • Pak choi
  • Spring onions

Add firmer veg early in the cooking time, and delicate greens in the last 30 minutes to retain their colour and crunch.
