Crunchy Air Fryer Crispy Bang Bang Chicken Pitta Pockets. Now traditionally the chicken is “banged” but we won’t be doing that, we’re going crispy in a cornflake crumb. This serves 4 people as a light meal, you could have a salad on the side, or for 2 people its 2 large pittas. You’ll also have lots of sauce so keep some in your fridge for your next sandwich or pitta.

What Is Bang Bang Chicken?

Air Fryer Bang Bang Chicken is a deliciously crispy dish that features tender chicken pieces coated in a spicy, creamy peanut sauce. This recipe is a healthier alternative to traditional frying, offering the same satisfying crunch without the excess oil. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or as an appetiser for gatherings.

Tips for Extra Crispy Bang Bang Chicken

To achieve an even crispier texture for your Air Fryer Bang Bang Chicken, consider the following method:

  • Double Coat! After dipping your chicken pieces in the batter, coat them with breadcrumbs, then repeat the process. This double layer creates an irresistible crunch.
  • After the initial cooking time, air fry the chicken for an additional 5 minutes. This ensures that both the batter and chicken are thoroughly cooked and crispy.

Storage Instructions

You can store leftover Air Fryer Bang Bang Chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. To maintain its crispiness:

  • Allow the chicken to cool completely before sealing it in a container to prevent condensation.
  • When storing, arrange the chicken pieces so they don’t stick together.
  • For best results, reheat in the air fryer to restore its crispy texture rather than using a microwave, which can make it soggy.

Can I Make This Dish Vegetarian?

You can easily adapt this recipe to be vegetarian by substituting chicken with plant-based alternatives such as tofu or cauliflower florets make an excellent substitute. Simply air fry the cauliflower at 190°C (375°F) for about 12–15 minutes, shaking halfway through for even cooking.
