Looking to impress your friends at brunch? Try these delicious Cheese & Jalapeno Scones made effortlessly in the air fryer. This quick and easy recipe delivers scones that are perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. With the rich flavour of cheese and the spicy kick of jalapeños, these scones are a crowd-pleaser.

Can you really bake scones in an air fryer?

Yes. The air fryer is brilliant for baking small batches of scones. It gives them a golden, crisp outside while keeping the inside soft and fluffy – ideal for savoury cheese scones.

Do I need to preheat the air fryer for this recipe?

It’s recommended. Preheating your air fryer for 2–3 minutes helps the scones cook evenly and rise better, just like a conventional oven.

What kind of cheese works best for these air fryer scones?

A strong mature cheddar gives the best flavour, but you can also mix in Red Leicester or even a bit of mozzarella for added meltiness.

Can I leave out the jalapeños?

Absolutely – if you’re cooking for kids or prefer milder scones, you can leave out the jalapeños or swap them for chopped spring onions or roasted red pepper.

How long do cheese scones take in the air fryer?

They typically take around 10–12 minutes at 180°C. Keep an eye on them – they should be golden on top and cooked through in the middle.

How do I store leftover air fryer scones?

Let them cool completely, then store in an airtight container for up to 2 days. You can also freeze them and reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes to freshen them up.

Can I make these scones ahead of time?

Yes – you can prep the dough in advance and store it in the fridge (wrapped tightly) for up to 24 hours before baking.

What can I serve with cheddar & jalapeño scones?

They’re lovely on their own or served warm with butter. For a bigger lunch, pair them with soup, chilli, or a fresh salad.

Sift the flour into a bowl, then add your baking powder, paprika, salt and pepper

Step 2

Cube up the butter, then use your thumbs and forefingers to rub it into the flour mix until mixed together

Step 3

Pour 200ml of milk into a bowl, crack in an egg, and whisk until smooth

Step 4

Create a well in the centre then add your egg and milk mixture, along with your grated cheese and chopped jalapeños

Step 5

Mix everything together using two forks (or use your hands) and then add some flour to your surface and begin kneading your dough until you have a firm dough

Step 6

Use a rolling pin to flatten the dough 3-4cm thick and then use a cookie cutter to create 12 scones

Step 7

Pop the scones in the air fryer and brush the tops and sides with some egg wash and top with more cheddar cheese. Airfry for 12 minutes at 180°C (355°F).
