Slow Cooker Sweet and Spicy Pork recipe. Inspired by the unforgettable flavour combination of sweet and spicy that I first experienced in a burger, I decided to bring it to life with succulent pork.

 

Can I use any cut of pork for this slow cooker recipe?

Yes. Pork shoulder or pork loin work brilliantly in the slow cooker. Pork shoulder is slightly fattier, so it becomes melt-in-the-mouth tender and is great for shredding. Pork loin is leaner but still absorbs the sweet and spicy flavours really well.

 

 

Do I need to brown the pork before putting it in the slow cooker?

Browning adds a bit more depth of flavour, but it’s not essential. This recipe is all about minimal prep, making it ideal for a no-fuss midweek dinner.

Step 1

Place all the ingredients in the slow cooker and stir. Cook on high for 3 hours or low for 4–5 hours. Garnish with spring onions.

700g (1 lb 9 oz) boneless pork shoulder, thinly sliced

1 onion, thinly sliced

3 tbsp gochujang chilli paste

1 tbsp sesame oil

4 tbsp ketchup

6 tbsp soy sauce

100ml (2/5 cups) chicken stock

1 tbsp hoisin sauce

2 tbsp honey

5 garlic cloves, crushed

1 tsp ground ginger

2 tbsp Chinese rice wine

1 tbsp cornflour, mixed to a paste with 1 tbsp water

Sliced spring onions, to garnish
