Slowcooker Honey Mustard Ham (Cooked in Cola)
This fuss free, sweet and sticky beauty made with minimal ingredients is one of my go to, cooked in either Cider or Cola.
COOKING TIME
7 hours
DIFFICULTY
difficult
Slow Cooker Honey Mustard Ham is must over the Christmas period (or anytime of year in my opinion). I like to cook mine in Coca-Cola but feel free to use apple juice or cider if you don’t have any.
Why Use a Slow Cooker / Crockpot for Honey Mustard Ham?
Using a slow cooker / crockpot for your ham offers incredible benefits:
- Keeps the ham incredibly moist and tender
- Frees up valuable oven space during busy holiday cooking
- Allows for hands-off cooking with minimal preparation
- Ensures even heating and flavour distribution
- Creates a stress-free cooking experience
Why Use Coca-Cola to Cook Ham?
Cola acts as a remarkable tenderising agent for slow cooker ham. The full-fat version (not diet) creates a delicious sweet and savoury glaze while keeping the gammon joint incredibly moist. The sugar content caramelises during cooking, adding depth to the ham’s flavour profile and ensuring a succulent result.
Can You Cook Cola Ham Without a Slow Cooker?
Absolutely! You can prepare cola ham on the hob using a large pan with a lid. Bring the cola to a gentle boil, then simmer for 2-3 hours, topping up liquid as it evaporates. The method remains similar – finish with a honey mustard glaze in the oven at 200Β°C for that perfect crispy exterior.
What Are the Best Accompaniments for Slow Cooker Cola Ham?
Cola ham is incredibly versatile. Serve it as a classic Sunday roast with all the trimmings, use in sandwiches, or enjoy with a simple side of fried eggs and chips. The honey mustard glaze makes it perfect for festive occasions or casual family meals.
