What is slow cooker pulled ham?

Slow cooker pulled ham is a tender, juicy dish made by cooking a ham joint in a slow cooker until it’s easily shredded. This method results in flavourful, melt-in-your-mouth meat that’s perfect for a variety of meals.

Why use a slow cooker for ham?

Using a slow cooker for ham offers several advantages. It’s a hands-off cooking method that produces consistently tender results. The slow cooking process also allows the flavours to develop fully, resulting in a more delicious dish.

What type of ham is best for slow cooking?

For the best slow cooker ham, I like to use a smoked or unsmoked gammon joint. This cut provides excellent flavour and texture when cooked slowly.

How long does it take to cook ham in a slow cooker?

Cooking times for slow cooker ham can vary, but generally, you’ll need 6-8 hours on high. The exact time depends on the size of your ham and your specific slow cooker.

What is the creamy mustard parsley sauce?

The creamy mustard parsley sauce is a delicious accompaniment to slow cooker pulled ham. It’s a rich, tangy sauce that complements the salty flavour of the ham beautifully.

How do I make the creamy mustard parsley sauce?

Making the creamy mustard parsley sauce is simple. You’ll need mustard, parsley, milk, butter and flour. The recipe can be easily prepared while the ham is cooking in the slow cooker.

Can I use shop-bought sauce instead?

While homemade sauce is delicious, you can certainly use a shop-bought alternative if you’re short on time. Look for a creamy mustard sauce in your local supermarket, and add fresh chopped parsley for a similar effect.

What are some serving suggestions for slow cooker pulled ham?

Slow cooker pulled ham is versatile and can be served in many ways. Try it in sandwiches, on top of salads, or as a main dish with roasted vegetables. Don’t forget to drizzle with the creamy mustard parsley sauce!

Can I freeze leftover slow cooker ham?

Yes, leftover slow cooker ham freezes well. Store it in an airtight container for up to three months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating.

Method

Step 1

Place the gammon into the slow cooker with 500ml of chicken stock and cook on high for 6-8 hours.

Step 2

Remove the gammon from the slow cooker and shred the ham on a chopping board or plate, then prepare a creamy parsley sauce in a pan.

Step 3

You can use shop bought sauce, but to make it from scratch simply add your butter to a medium heat and let it melt, turn down the heat to medium-low then add your flour to make a paste. Gradually add the milk, one tablespoon of mustard, fresh parsley and black pepper and mix until you reach your desired consistency. Feel free to add more milk if it’s too thick.

Step 4

Serve the shredded ham with some mashed potato, garden peas and that gorgeous parsley sauce. You’re gonna love it.
