What are gyoza?

Gyoza are Japanese dumplings, usually filled with minced meat and vegetables, wrapped in a thin dough. They can be pan-fried, steamed or boiled, and are a popular comfort food across Asia. In this recipe, shop-bought frozen gyoza make it a quick recipe without the fuss.

Can I use frozen gyoza for this broth?

Yes, frozen gyoza work perfectly. They cook quickly in the hot broth, making this a brilliant shortcut for a weeknight dinner. Just follow the pack instructions for cooking times.

Is this gyoza broth a quick recipe?

Definitely. The whole dish comes together in under 20 minutes, making it a perfect quick recipe when you want something tasty but don’t have much time.

Can I swap the pak choi for another vegetable?

Of course – pak choi gives a lovely freshness, but you could use spinach, kale or even shredded cabbage if that’s what you have in the fridge.

Is gyoza and pak choi broth healthy?

Yes, this is a lighter comfort food option. The broth is warming but not heavy, the pak choi adds greens, and gyoza bring satisfying flavour. It’s a balanced, nourishing bowl.

It’s warm, savoury and soothing – exactly what you want from comfort food. The dumplings add a hearty bite while the broth keeps it light enough for everyday eating.

You could add noodles, extra vegetables or even some shredded chicken or tofu if you’d like a bigger bowlful.
