What’s in a tunacado sandwich?

A classic Joe & the Juice tunacado contains:

  • Tuna mayo mixture
  • Pesto
  • Avocado
  • Tomato
  • Crispy flatbread

What bread does Joe & the Juice use for the tunacado?

The signature sandwich uses a crispy flatbread, similar to ciabatta but thinner and toasted to golden perfection. This contrast between the creamy filling and crunchy exterior is what sets the tunacado apart from your standard deli sandwich.

Can you meal prep the tunacado?

Yes. The tuna salad can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Assemble the sandwich fresh to maintain the crispiness of the flatbread. Whether you’re a Joe & the Juice regular or just jumping on the tunacado train, this viral sensation lives up to the hype. Give this copycat recipe a try, and you might just find your new favourite lunch!

Method

Step 1

To a bowl, add your drained tuna, mayo, lemon juice, mustard, chopped coriander, jalapeños, hot sauce, salt and pepper and give that a good mix with a fork.

Step 2

Cut the corners from your flatbread to recreate the iconic Joe & The Juice Tunacado look and airfry for 5 minutes at 200°C (390°F).

Step 3

Once cooked, slice the pitta and add 1 tsp of pesto to each side of the pitta. On one side add your tuna mixture, then top with tomato and avocado slices and some fresh dill. Close the sandwich then wrap in some greaseproof paper for the full effect.
