Air Fryer Cheeseburger Calzone

You probably read my books and wonder where why and how has he put a burger inside a pizza? It's usually when I can't decide what I want so I put them together. You can skip making the dough here and use a tortilla wrap.

Can you cook a cheeseburger calzone in the air fryer?

An air fryer is perfect for making a cheeseburger calzone because it gives you a crispy golden crust without deep frying. It’s a quick and easy method compared to the oven, and it makes this fakeaway recipe healthier and lighter.

How long does it take to cook a calzone in the air fryer?

It usually takes 8–12 minutes at 180°C (350°F) in the air fryer, depending on the size and thickness of your calzone. Always check that the dough is fully cooked and golden before serving.

What is a cheeseburger calzone?

A cheeseburger calzone is a twist on the traditional Italian calzone, filled with seasoned minced beef, cheese, and burger-style toppings instead of pizza fillings. It’s like a cheeseburger wrapped in a crispy dough pocket – the perfect fakeaway treat at home.

Can I make a cheeseburger calzone ahead of time?

Yes, you can assemble the calzones ahead of time and store them in the fridge for up to 24 hours before cooking. Alternatively, you can freeze them (uncooked) for up to 3 months and cook straight from frozen in the air fryer – just add a few extra minutes to the cooking time.

What’s the best dough for an air fryer calzone?

You can use store-bought pizza dough or make your own. For a healthier fakeaway, try a lighter dough or wholemeal option. Ready-made dough makes this recipe super quick and easy.

Can I add extra fillings to my cheeseburger calzone?

Absolutely! Popular add-ins include onions, pickles, bacon, or extra cheese. Just don’t overfill, as this can cause the dough to split in the air fryer.

Is this cheeseburger calzone a healthy fakeaway option?

Yes – especially when made in the air fryer. It uses less oil than frying and you can control the ingredients, making it a much lighter and healthier alternative to a traditional takeaway calzone or burger.

What should I serve with a cheeseburger calzone?

Serve with a side of air fryer chips, salad, or even a dipping sauce like burger sauce, ketchup, or garlic mayo for the ultimate fakeaway experience at home.

This is a recipe I wrote for Healthy Fakeaways, but it didn’t make the cut. If you want to pre order, you can here! But not to worry – I have more fakeaway recipes like this over on my website:

Method

Step 1

Mix together the pizza dough, divide into two and roll on a flat surface. About the thickness of two tortilla wraps so it doesn’t break when folding.

Step 2

On a pan fry off the mince in Cajun seasoning, mustard, beef stock and ketchup. Mix together the burger sauce.

Step 3

Fill your dough with some of the mince, half the cheddar, tomatoes chopped and gherkins. Preheat the airfryer for 4 mins at 190°C. Add the calzone and cook for 5 mins.

Step 4

Brush the top of the dough with oil and scatter with cheese, the oil helps the cheese stick then cook for another 6 mins.

Step 5

If you have extra burger sauce drizzle it across the top when its cooked, serve the lettuce and more tomatoes on the side.
