How much protein is in a Caramel Freddo cheesecake?
Each Caramel Freddo protein cheesecake contains approximately 30g of protein, based on the ingredients used in this recipe. This makes them a great high protein dessert or sweet treat.
How many calories are in a Caramel Freddo protein cheesecake?
Each cheesecake contains approximately 526 calories. Calories can vary depending on the specific protein powder, caramel sauce, chocolate and Freddos you use.
Can I make these protein cheesecakes ahead of time?
Yes. These Caramel Freddo cheesecakes are ideal for making ahead. Prepare them and leave them covered in the fridge until you are ready to eat them. They need at least 2–3 hours in the fridge to set, so making them a few hours ahead works well.
How long do protein cheesecakes last in the fridge?
Keep the cheesecakes covered and refrigerated and enjoy them within a couple of days for the best taste and texture. As they contain yoghurt, they should not be left sitting out at room temperature for long periods.
Can I use a different yoghurt?
Yes. 0% Greek yoghurt gives these cheesecakes their creamy, thick texture and helps keep the recipe high in protein. You could use another thick Greek-style yoghurt, although the nutritional values may change.
Can I use a different flavour of protein powder?
Yes. Vanilla protein powder works particularly well with the caramel and chocolate flavours, but you could experiment with another flavour. Just keep in mind that changing the protein powder may alter the taste, texture and protein content.
Can I use milk chocolate instead of dark chocolate?
Yes. You can use milk chocolate if you prefer a sweeter cheesecake. Dark chocolate works well with the caramel and helps balance the sweetness, but either can be used.
Can I use a different chocolate bar instead of a Caramel Freddo?
Yes. If you cannot find Caramel Freddos, you can use another small chocolate bar or chocolate treat on top. You could also leave the topping off altogether.
Why do you add chia seeds to the protein cheesecake?
The chia seeds help the Greek yoghurt and protein powder mixture thicken as it sits in the fridge. They also add a little extra fibre to the cheesecakes.
How long do these protein cheesecakes need to set?
Leave the cheesecakes in the fridge for at least 2–3 hours. This gives the yoghurt and chia seed mixture time to thicken and allows the chocolate topping to set.
Can I make these without chia seeds?
You can, but the texture may be slightly different. The chia seeds help thicken the protein yoghurt mixture, so leaving them out could result in a softer filling.
Can I make these Caramel Freddo cheesecakes without protein powder?
You can, but they will no longer have the same high protein content. The vanilla protein powder is an important part of the protein filling and also helps give it a thicker consistency.
Are these Caramel Freddo protein cheesecakes healthy?
These cheesecakes can be a great option when you want a higher protein sweet treat. Each one contains around 30g of protein, but whether they fit your idea of a healthy diet depends on your individual nutritional needs and overall diet.
What can I use instead of Weetabix for the cheesecake base?
Weetabix gives this recipe an easy, slightly crunchy base, but you could experiment with crushed biscuits, oats or another cereal. Keep in mind that changing the base will alter the calories and nutritional information.
Method
Step 1
Make your protein yogurt by mixing the Greek yogurt, protein powder and chia seeds together in a bowl until smooth.
Step 2
Add 2 Weetabix to the bottom of each glass container. Pour 30ml of milk into each and crush the Weetabix down to create your cheesecake base.
Step 3
Top each one with the protein yoghurt mixture, followed by 1 tbsp of caramel sauce.
Step 4
Melt the dark chocolate and divide it between the three cheesecakes, spreading it over the top. Finish each one with a Caramel Freddo. Pop them in the fridge for at least 2–3 hours to set. Enjoy 🙂Â
