Using tortilla wraps instead of puff pastry, and air-fried instead of deep-fried, here is a much healthier way to enjoy the same flavours and they are beyond easy to make. A perfect way to satisfy an apple turnover craving as well.
What is an air fryer apple pie roll?
An air fryer apple pie roll is a quick and easy twist on traditional apple pie, using pastry or wraps filled with sweet apple and cinnamon, cooked to golden perfection in the air fryer. It’s a great fakeaway dessert that’s lighter and faster to make.
How long does it take to cook apple pie rolls in the air fryer?
Cooking time is usually around 8-12 minutes at 180°C (350°F), depending on your air fryer model. The result is crispy, golden pastry with a warm, gooey apple filling.
Can I use store-bought pastry or wraps for this recipe?
Yes! Using ready-made puff pastry, filo, or even tortilla wraps makes this recipe super simple and accessible. They crisp up beautifully in the air fryer and hold the apple filling perfectly.
What type of apples work best for air fryer apple pie rolls?
Tart apples like Bramley or Granny Smith are ideal as they hold their shape well and provide a lovely balance to the sweetness. You can also use sweeter apples if you prefer a softer filling.
Can I make this recipe vegan or dairy-free?
Absolutely! Use dairy-free pastry or wraps and swap butter for a plant-based alternative. The filling can be made vegan by using maple syrup or agave instead of honey or refined sugar.
Is this recipe suitable for a quick dessert or snack?
Yes, this is a perfect quick dessert or sweet snack that tastes just like a takeaway treat but made healthier and quicker at home using your air fryer.
Can I prepare the apple pie rolls in advance?
You can prepare the rolls ahead of time and keep them in the fridge before air frying. Just add a minute or two extra to the cooking time if cooking straight from the fridge.

Method
Step 1
Add the apples, honey, cinnamon and granulated sweetener to a heatproof bowl or dish, then air-fry at 200ºC (390ºF) for 6–8 minutes.
Step 2
For the wraps, cut the ends off so you are left with a rectangle. Divide the apple mix into three and on one half of each rectangle lengthways. Brush the edges with egg and fold over the other half and crimp all the edges with a fork to seal.
Step 3
Glaze with the beaten egg, then dust with the cinnamon sugar.
Step 4
Air-fry for 8–10 minutes at 200ºC (390ºF), but check after 8 minutes to see if they are done.
Step 5
Remove from the air fryer and allow to cool for a few minutes before serving. For more healthy low calorie air fryer recipes take a look at The Healthy Air Fryer Book.
