DIFFICULTY

simple

Can you make tandoori chicken in the air fryer?

Yes, tandoori chicken cooks brilliantly in the air fryer. You get juicy chicken with a slightly charred, crispy edge—just like it’s come from a tandoor oven, but faster and easier at home.

How long does it take to cook tandoori chicken in the air fryer?

Tandoori chicken takes around 18–22 minutes in the air fryer at 200°C, depending on the size of your pieces. Turn halfway through for even cooking and that perfect golden finish.

What is tandoori chicken made of?

Tandoori chicken is made using chicken marinated in yoghurt and spices like cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, and garam masala. It’s full of flavour and traditionally cooked at high heat for a smoky finish.

Is tandoori chicken healthy?

Yes, tandoori chicken is a healthy dinner option. It’s high in protein, low in fat (especially if using chicken breast), and cooked without oil in the air fryer. The yoghurt marinade also helps keep the chicken tender without needing added fats.

What do you serve with tandoori chicken?

Serve air fryer tandoori chicken with rice, naan, salad or a cooling dip like lime and coriander yogurt. It’s also great in wraps, pittas, or on a big sharing platter with your favourite sides.

Can I use chicken breast for this air fryer recipe?

Yes, you can use chicken breast or thighs—both work well. Just adjust the cooking time slightly as thighs take a little longer to cook through than breasts.

Can I prep tandoori chicken in advance?

Absolutely—marinate the chicken the night before and keep it in the fridge. The longer it marinates, the more flavour it has. Then just pop it in the air fryer when you’re ready to cook.

Method

Step 1

Place the chicken thighs in a bowl with 1 tbsp olive oil, 2 tbsp tikka paste, and 2 tsp tandoori seasoning. Mix well to coat, then air fry at 200°C for 14 minutes.

Step 2

While the chicken cooks, make the coriander yogurt by blending all the listed ingredients until smooth.

Step 3

Serve the chicken over a bed of pilau rice, drizzle with the coriander yogurt, and enjoy!
