Airfryer Sausages: The Quickest Way to Cook Sausages

If you're wondering how to cook sausages in the air fryer, you're not alone! Whether you're rustling up breakfast, meal prepping for the week, or just fancy a quick and easy dinner, cooking sausages in the air fryer is one of the easiest ways to get perfectly crisp, juicy results every single time. This simple air fryer sausage recipe is perfect for beginners, and it works with all types of sausages - Cumberland, pork, chicken, or veggie.

Do you need to add oil when cooking sausages in the air fryer?

Not usually. Most sausages contain enough fat to crisp up naturally in the air fryer. However, if your air fryer tends to stick, a light spray of oil can help prevent this.

What temperature do you cook sausages in the air fryer?

The best temperature for air fryer sausages is 180°C. It cooks them evenly and crisps up the outside while keeping the inside juicy.

How long do sausages take in the air fryer?

It depends on the type and size. Thick sausages like Cumberland take around 15 minutes, while thinner chipolatas or veggie options take less (usually 8–12 minutes).

Can you cook frozen sausages in the air fryer?

Yes! Add 3–5 minutes to the usual cooking time and always ensure they are cooked through with no pink in the middle. Check the packet instructions where available.

Are sausages healthier in the air fryer?

Yes. Airfrying reduces the need for oil and allows fat to drip away from the sausage, resulting in less greasy, slightly healthier results compared to pan-frying.

Method

Step 1

Place the sausages in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Don’t overcrowd… space allows the hot air to circulate and crisp the sausages evenly.

Step 2

Air fry at 180°C for 12–15 minutes for thick pork or Cumberland sausages, 10–12 minutes for chipolatas or chicken sausages, and 8–10 minutes for vegetarian or vegan sausages.

Step 3

Shake the basket or turn the sausages halfway through cooking to ensure even browning.

Step 4

Serve hot with your favourite sides – mash, beans, or pop them in a bap!

Ingredients

6 sausages of your choice (pork, chicken, vegetarian or vegan)

Optional: a light spray of oil (only if your air fryer basket tends to stick)
