These air fryer baked potatoes are the ultimate comfort food, boasting a crispy skin and a tender, fluffy interior. They truly are the best baked potatoes you’ll ever make. The air fryer ensures that each potato is cooked to perfection, making it a go-to method for achieving that ideal texture without the wait. Say goodbye to soggy skins and hello to perfectly crispy baked potatoes.
Why Cook Baked Potatoes In The Air Fryer?
I used to rely on my oven for baking potatoes, but this has now changed since getting my air fryer. While I still love the convenience of the oven, nothing beats the crispy skin that an air fryer provides. With an air fryer, you can skip the preheating time required by traditional ovens, making it a quicker and more energy-efficient option. Plus, in hot weather, using an air fryer keeps your kitchen cool—no one wants to heat up the house during those warm summer months.
How to Make Air Fryer Baked Potatoes
Making air fryer baked potatoes is incredibly simple. You only need a few key ingredients: your choice of potatoes (baking potatoes work great), low calorie oil spray or oil for crisping, and your favourite seasonings. The full recipe is outlined below, but rest assured that you’ll be enjoying delicious baked potatoes in no time.
Ingredients for Air Fryer Baked Potatoes
For the best results, opt for high-quality ingredients. To whip up this air fryer baked potato recipe, you will need:
- Potatoes: Baking potatoes are ideal, but feel free to experiment with yellow or sweet potatoes.
- Oil: I recommend rapeseed oil spray for its high smoke point, but olive oil or low calorie cooking spray would also work well.
- Seasonings: A sprinkle of garlic powder and salt enhances the flavour.
- Toppings: Get creative with your favourite toppings like butter, sour cream, or cheese!
Preparing Your Air Fryer Baked Potatoes
Start with clean potatoes—wash and pat them dry before placing them in the air fryer basket. A light coat of cooking spray helps achieve that crispy skin while allowing seasonings to stick. If you prefer, you can drizzle oil directly onto the potatoes and rub it in.
Seasoning Your Potatoes
If you don’t have cooking spray handy, simply drizzle some oil over the potatoes and rub it in. I recommend using oils with high smoke points like avocado or rapeseed oil. Next, generously sprinkle sea salt and garlic powder over the potatoes for an extra flavour boost.
Cooking Time and Temperature for Air Fryer Baked Potatoes
For perfectly cooked air fryer baked potatoes, set your air fryer to 200°C (390°F) and cook for about 40 minutes. Keep in mind that cooking times may vary depending on potato size. Halfway through cooking, flip the potatoes using tongs to ensure even browning.
Tips for Perfect Air Fryer Baked Potatoes
To achieve the best results, avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. Four medium-sized potatoes is usually the maximum. Piercing each potato with a fork before cooking allows steam to escape and prevents any potential bursting. Remember that different-sized potatoes will require different cooking times; small ones will cook faster than larger ones.
