Can I cook salmon burgers in the air fryer?

Yes — the air fryer is perfect for salmon burgers. It cooks them evenly, keeps them juicy inside, and gives the outside a lovely golden finish without needing lots of oil.

Are these salmon burgers good for meal prep?

Definitely. You can shape the patties or meatballs ahead of time and store them in the fridge for up to 2 days before cooking, or freeze them raw for up to 3 months. Once cooked, they’ll keep in the fridge for 3 days, making them ideal for meal prep.

Can I make these into salmon meatballs instead of burgers?

Yes. Just roll the mixture into bite-sized balls and air fry until golden and cooked through. They’re great for meal prep lunches served with salad, rice, or noodles.

Do I need fresh salmon, or can I use tinned salmon?

Fresh salmon gives the best texture, but tinned salmon works well if you’re looking for a budget-friendly or quicker option. Just drain it well before mixing.

Are air fryer salmon burgers healthy?

Yes. Salmon is naturally high in protein and omega-3 fats. Cooking in the air fryer means you need less oil than pan frying, keeping the recipe light but still flavourful.

What can I serve with salmon burgers?

They’re delicious in a soft bun with salad and a yoghurt-based sauce. Or, for lighter meal prep, try serving the salmon patties with a side salad, grains, or roasted veg. For more air fryer meal prep recipes like this, check out my cookbook The Healthy Air Fryer Book.

Method

Step 1

Add the salmon to a food processor along with all of the other ingredients except the oil. Pulse until the mixture starts to stick together.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into four balls and shape into burgers. Spray the burgers with some oil and cook in the air fryer for 8–10 minutes at 200°C, flipping halfway through the cooking time.

Step 3

Assemble the burgers in the burger buns with some lettuce, red onion, sliced tomatoes, and your sauce of choice.
