You have to make these Air Fryer Potato Skins – super easy to make and such a tasty snack. You can even use veggies or sweet potatoes to mix things up, and this snack helps reduce food waste – talk about a win-win. So, grab your air fryer, pop in those potato skins, and get ready for a delicious treat that’s easy on prep and big on flavour.

What type of potato is best for potato skins?

Maris Piper or baking potatoes work best – they have a fluffy interior and a sturdy skin that crisps up beautifully in the air fryer.

Do I need to pre-cook the potatoes before air frying the skins?

Yes – you’ll want to bake or air fry the whole potatoes first, scoop out most of the flesh, then return the skins to the air fryer to crisp up with your toppings.

How long do potato skins take in the air fryer?

Once prepped, air fry the filled potato skins at 200°C for 8–10 minutes until the edges are crispy and the cheese is bubbling, if used.

Can I make air fryer potato skins ahead of time?

Yes – you can prep and stuff them ahead, then refrigerate until needed. Just pop them in the air fryer when ready to serve for a freshly crisp texture.

Are air fryer potato skins a healthy snack?

They can be – especially if you use less oil, opt for low-fat cheese, lean protein, or veggie-based fillings. A great choice for guilt-free snacking or lighter party food.

What fillings work well in air fryer potato skins?

Popular options include cheddar and spring onion, crispy bacon, sour cream, or veggie alternatives like roasted peppers or black beans. The options are endless.

Can I make vegetarian or vegan potato skins?

Absolutely – swap in plant-based cheese, beans, mushrooms or nutritional yeast for a delicious vegetarian or vegan version.

How do I store leftovers?

Let them cool completely, then store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer for 4–5 minutes to crisp them back up.

Method

Step 1

Wash and dry the potatoes and peel the skins.

Step 2

Pat dry with a paper towel and mix with seasoning of choice, I used paprika, onion salt and garlic pepper in this video. Add a drizzle of olive oil and mix until well coated.

Step 3

Preheat air fryer to 210°C (410°F) on the airfry setting and add the skins, spreading them out evenly.

Step 4

Cook for approx 10-12 minutes until crispy and brown, shake a couple of times during cooking, and serve straight away. I love eating these with homemade salsa (but you can serve these with your favourite dip).
