If you love a good fakeaway, this combo is a winner. Crispy chicken cooked in the air fryer paired with a rich, homemade katsu curry made in the slow cooker – simple, tasty, and healthier than a takeaway. Here are some of the most common questions people ask about this recipe.

Can I cook chicken from frozen in the air fryer?

Yes – that’s one of the best things about the air fryer. Frozen chicken fillets cook through evenly and crisp up beautifully without the need for deep frying. Just make sure to check they’re cooked all the way through before serving (juices should run clear and no pink in the middle).

Do I need to defrost the chicken first?

Nope! Straight from the freezer into the air fryer works perfectly. It saves time and makes this fakeaway ideal for busy weeknights.

How long does the katsu curry sauce take in the slow cooker?

The sauce is best cooked low and slow for 4–6 hours, but you can also do it on high for 2–3 hours if you’re short on time. The slowcooker helps develop that deep, rich flavour that makes katsu curry so good.

What can I serve with air fryer chicken and katsu curry sauce?

Classic pairings are steamed rice, crispy chips, or even noodles. Add some stir-fried veg or a fresh salad to balance it out and make it a healthier fakeaway.

Can I freeze the katsu curry sauce?

Yes – once cooled, portion it into tubs and freeze for up to three months. Just defrost and reheat when you need a quick fakeaway night.

Is this healthier than a takeaway katsu curry?

Definitely. Using the air fryer cuts down on oil, and making your own curry sauce in the slow cooker means you control exactly what goes in – no hidden extras. It’s lighter, fresher, and often much cheaper than ordering in.

Can I use other proteins instead of chicken?

Absolutely. This katsu curry sauce works with turkey, pork, tofu, or even vegetables. Just swap the protein and keep the method the same.

Method

Step 1

Add all the ingredients for the sauce into the slow cooker apart from the coconut milk and cook on high for 2-3 hours or low for 4-5 hours.

Step 2

Once the sauce is cooked, use an immersion blender to blend the carrots and onions down to a soup consistency. Then add the coconut milk and blend again. Keep the sauce in the slow cooker, then cook your frozen chicken fillets for 20-25 minutes at 180.

Step 3

Once cooked, cut the chicken into slices, and serve with rice and edename and the katsu curry sauce.  Enjoy 😊
