I always make halloumi on toast (usually with bacon, avocado etc) but did you know you can grate halloumi, mix it with some egg and spices?! It is super easy to make, and cooks so well in the air fryer. But here’s where it gets fun: you can customise it with your favourite toppings! Add creamy avocado, hot honey, sweet chilli, or chilli jam. Whether it’s for breakfast, brunch, or a light dinner, halloumi toast is a tasty and satisfying option.
Can you cook halloumi in the air fryer?
Yes, halloumi cooks brilliantly in the air fryer. It gets that perfect golden crust on the outside while staying soft and slightly chewy inside—no need for added oil or a frying pan.
How long does it take to cook halloumi in the air fryer?
Halloumi takes about 6–8 minutes in the air fryer at 180°C. Flip halfway for an even crisp on both sides. Keep an eye on it so it doesn’t overcook or become rubbery.
What bread works best for halloumi toast?
A thick slice of sourdough, ciabatta, or even a seeded wholemeal loaf holds up well under the weight of the halloumi and toppings. Toasting it in the air fryer adds extra crunch too.
Is air fryer halloumi toast a healthy lunch idea?
Yes! It’s a satisfying lunch idea high in protein and flavour. Use wholegrain bread, light toppings like tomato or avocado, and a drizzle of lemon or chilli honey for a balanced bite. For more air fryer lunch ideas you can visit my blog.
What can I add to make my halloumi toast even better?
Try topping your halloumi toast with smashed avocado, grilled tomatoes, chilli jam, or roasted red peppers. A handful of rocket or fresh herbs adds a nice fresh touch. Method
Step 1
Grate 80g halloumi cheese and add to a bowl with one large egg and some black pepper. I also added some honey chilli sauce to the mixture as well. This sauce is super easy to make, simply mix honey with some chilli oil.
Step 2
Slice some sourdough and add your mixture on top of the bread. Air fry at 180°C for 8 minutes.
Step 3
Once the halloumi toast is cooked, drizzle over more of your dressing and get stuck in.
Ingredients
80g halloumi cheese
1 large egg
Black pepper
2 slices of sourdough
2 tbsp honey
2 tbsp chilli oil (I used The Woolf’s Kitchen Chilli Crunch)
