Can you cook prawns in the air fryer?

Yes. Prawns cook beautifully in the air fryer — they come out perfectly crispy with a tender centre in just 6–8 minutes at 180°C, making them ideal for quick, healthy tacos.

Are these prawn tacos low in calories?

Absolutely. This is one of our favourite low calorie air fryer recipes. Prawns are high in protein and low in fat, and the air fryer allows you to skip deep frying without sacrificing crunch.

What’s the best coating for crispy prawns in the air fryer?

A light coating of seasoned breadcrumbs or panko gives the prawns that signature crunch. Spray lightly with oil before cooking for the best results.

Can I use frozen prawns in this recipe?

Yes, just make sure the prawns are defrosted and patted dry before breading and air frying. This ensures they cook evenly and stay crispy.

What tortillas are best for prawn tacos?

Mini flour or corn tortillas work best. Warm them briefly in a dry pan or air fryer for added flexibility and flavour.

What toppings go well with crispy prawn tacos?

Fresh toppings like shredded lettuce, avocado, chopped tomatoes, lime juice, Greek yoghurt or spicy mayo are perfect for keeping the dish light and refreshing.

Can I make this recipe ahead of time?

The prawns are best enjoyed fresh, but you can prep your toppings and tortillas ahead of time for a super quick lunch.

Is this a good recipe for a healthy lunch?

Yes. This is a high-protein, low-calorie air fryer lunch recipe that’s satisfying but won’t leave you feeling sluggish.

How do I stop the prawns from going soggy?

Make sure to cook in a single layer in the air fryer basket without overcrowding. This allows air to circulate and keeps the coating crispy.

Can I make this gluten-free?

Yes, just use gluten-free breadcrumbs and corn tortillas for a delicious, coeliac-friendly version of crispy prawn tacos.
