Can I make crispy Peking chicken in the air fryer?
Yes! The air fryer is perfect for making crispy Peking chicken at home with less oil, delivering that iconic crunchy skin and tender meat for a healthier fakeaway.
What makes this recipe a good fakeaway option?
This recipe uses the air fryer to recreate classic Peking chicken flavours with far less fat than traditional deep-frying, making it a quick, easy, and healthier take on takeaway.
How do I get the chicken extra crispy in the air fryer?
Coat the chicken with a light batter or breadcrumb mix, spray lightly with oil, and cook at around 190–200°C. Turning halfway ensures an even, crispy finish. This recipe also works with frozen chicken strips too!
What cut of chicken is best for air fryer Peking chicken?
Boneless, skin-on chicken thighs or drumsticks work best as they stay juicy and develop crisp skin when air fried.
How long does it take to cook Peking chicken in the air fryer?
Typically, it takes about 20–25 minutes at 190°C, depending on size, with a flip halfway through for even cooking.
Can I prepare the sauce ahead of time?
Yes, the classic Peking sauce can be made in advance and stored in the fridge for several days. Simply warm it up before serving.
Is this recipe suitable for families?
Definitely! It’s a great family-friendly fakeaway — packed with flavour but easy to adjust spice levels for kids.
What should I serve with air fryer Peking chicken?
Serve with steamed rice or noodles, stir-fried vegetables, and spring onions for a complete, restaurant-style fakeaway meal.
Can I make this recipe gluten-free?
Yes, substitute regular soy sauce with gluten-free tamari and use gluten-free flour or breadcrumbs for the coating.
How do I store and reheat leftovers?
Store leftover chicken in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat in the air fryer at 180°C for 5–7 minutes to restore crispiness.
