Who doesnât love chicken fried rice? Itâs one of the most popular takeaway dishesâand now you can recreate your own fakeaway chicken fried rice at home using your air fryer. This version is quick, budget-friendly, and super easy to throw together, especially if youâre using pre-cooked or microwaveable rice.
Not a fan of egg in your fried rice? Thatâs absolutely fineâIâve left it out in this recipe, but you can definitely add it if thatâs your thing. The beauty of a homemade air fryer chicken fried rice fakeaway is that you can customise it exactly how you like it.
Can You Cook Chicken Fried Rice in an Air Fryer?
Yes, you can cook chicken fried rice in the air fryer, and once you try it, you may never go back to the hob again. Using an air fryer not only cuts down on oil and calories, but it also delivers a crispy, slightly toasted texture to your riceâsimilar to the “wok hei” youâd get in a traditional takeaway.
Frequently Asked Questions for making air fryer chicken fried rice
What kind of rice should I use?
For best results, use day-old rice or microwaveable basmati or jasmine rice. Freshly cooked rice can be too wet and sticky, which might make your fried rice clump together in the air fryer.
Do I need to pre-cook the chicken?
Yesâuse cooked chicken to ensure it’s safe to eat and doesn’t dry out. This recipe is perfect for using leftover roast chicken, rotisserie chicken, or meal-prepped grilled chicken.
Can I add egg to air fryer chicken fried rice?
Absolutely. If you like egg in your fried rice, scramble it separately and stir it in during the last few minutes of air frying, or add it in raw and mix it well so it cooks into the rice. Either method worksâitâs totally down to personal preference.
How do I store and reheat air fryer chicken fried rice?
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer for 4â5 minutes or microwave until piping hot.
