Can you cook bagels in the air fryer?

Yes – the air fryer is ideal for toasting or reheating bagels, especially when making breakfast sandwiches. It gives the bagel a crispy outside while keeping the inside soft and warm.

Can I batch prep breakfast bagels in advance?

Absolutely – that’s what makes this recipe so handy. You can make several bagels at once, store them in the fridge or freezer, and reheat in the air fryer whenever you need a quick breakfast.

How do I reheat frozen bagel sandwiches in the air fryer?

Reheat from frozen by air frying at 160°C for 10–12 minutes, or until piping hot in the centre. You can also wrap them in foil to prevent over-browning.

What fillings work best for breakfast bagels in the air fryer?

Popular options include egg, cheese, sausage, bacon, or even veggie patties. For a healthier twist, use lean turkey or scrambled egg whites and spinach.

Do I need to toast the bagel before assembling it?

No – the air fryer will crisp the bagel naturally as it reheats the entire sandwich. If you like it extra crispy, you can toast the cut sides briefly before assembling.

How long do prepped breakfast bagels last in the fridge?

Once assembled and cooked, they’ll last for up to 4 days in the fridge. Reheat in the air fryer just before serving for the best texture.

Can I freeze these air fryer bagels?

Yes – these breakfast bagels are perfect for freezing. Wrap each one individually in foil or cling film and freeze for up to 2 months.

Are air fryer breakfast bagels healthy?

They can be! Choose wholegrain bagels, lean protein fillings, and low-fat cheese or dairy alternatives to keep it balanced while still satisfying.

What’s the best temperature for cooking bagels in the air fryer?

Cook or reheat your breakfast bagels at 180°C, adjusting slightly based on your air fryer model and whether the bagel is fresh, chilled, or frozen.

Can I make these vegetarian?

Definitely – swap in grilled mushrooms, tomato, avocado, halloumi, or plant-based sausages for a tasty vegetarian breakfast option 🙂

Method

Step 1

Air-fry the bacon and hash browns for 8-10 minutes at 200°C (390°F) after 10 minutes the bacon will be very crispy, so you might prefer to take it out after 8 minutes.

Step 2

While these are cooking, prep the rest of your ingredients.

Step 3

Cut up the bacon and hash browns into small pieces and mix together in a bowl with the grated cheese, basil, sundried tomatoes, eggs, onion, spring onions, milk and some salt and pepper.

Step 4

Remove the tray and add the mix to the air fryer basket, then air-fry for 12-14 minutes, or until set (cover with foil if the top is getting too dark). Cut into 6 slices and then fill the bagels with them.

Step 5

Top each with a slice of cheese, if using, and serve.

Step 6

Top tip – If you want to prep ahead, wrap the filled bagels in foil once they’re cooked, then freeze.
