Can you make baked potatoes in the air fryer?
The air fryer makes baked potatoes faster than the oven and gives you crisp skin without needing to wrap them in foil.
How long does it take to cook a baked potato in the air fryer?
For a medium baking potato, it usually takes 40-50 minutes at 200°C. Larger potatoes may take up to 50-60 minutes.
Do you need to wrap a baked potato in foil for the air fryer?
You don’t need to wrap your baked potato in foil, but I like too so the potato gets nice and fluffy. However, it is important, if using foil, to remove at the end so the skin can get nice and crispy.
Can I reheat a baked potato in the air fryer?
Of course – reheat at 180°C for 5–7 minutes until piping hot.
What are the best toppings for an air fryer baked potato?
You can keep it simple with butter and cheese, or try healthy lunch ideas like cottage cheese and chives, tuna sweetcorn, or leftover chilli. I’ve made an air fryer lasagne baked potato before which is my fave, or you can check out this air fryer tuna & chorizo baked potato recipe.
Is an air fryer baked potato healthy?
Yes – baked potatoes are naturally low in fat. Pair with lean protein or veggies for a balanced, filling lunch 🙂
Method
Step 1
Wash and dry the potatoes thoroughly. Pierce each one several times with a fork.
Step 2
Rub the potatoes with olive oil and sprinkle generously with sea salt for extra-crispy skin. (This is optional, but I like to wrap each potato in tinfoil at this stage to make the air fryer baked potatoes nice and fluffy).
Step 3
Place directly into the air fryer basket and cook at 200°C for 50 minutes. Cooking times may vary depending on potato size—check they’re soft in the middle with a sharp knife. If using tinfoil, remove the potatoes after 50 minutes, take off the foil, and return to the air fryer for a further 10 minutes to crisp up the skin.
Step 4
When ready, cut open, fluff the inside with a fork and add plenty of butter. You can also add your favourite toppings for the ultimate easy lunch.
Ingredients
2 large baking potatoes (Maris Piper or King Edward work well)
1 tbsp olive oil
½ tsp sea salt
Optional toppings: butter, grated cheese, baked beans, tuna mayo, sour cream, chives
